Fraenkel Gallery presents , a group exhibition that brings together a vibrant cross-section of some of the Bay Area’s most influential and idiosyncratic art galleries. Featuring work by more than 40 artists, the exhibition illuminates the diverse perspectives and practices that define the region’s rich gallery ecosystem. Taking place at a pivotal moment for the shifting gallery landscape, the exhibition reflects the sense of collaboration that has been a defining attribute of the area’s art scene and a central part of Fraenkel Gallery’s mission. Celebrating the region’s restless spirit of curiosity and invention, honors a legacy of creative autonomy and community engagement, highlighting how Bay Area galleries have continuously pushed boundaries and expanded dialogues between local and global practices. A public reception will take place on Saturday, May 30, from 3-5pm.

In Bloom

AMY WRIGHT has a preoccupation with capturing abandoned landscapes— the discarded, ignored, and untamed. Each canvas holds a world that morphs reality with imagination— plants are depicted wildly, landscapes are tiered, and vantage points tower with often-obscured horizon lines. NADIA YARON creates works inspired by the natural world from wood, stone, and metal. Yaron’s sculptures are inspired from the substance of her everyday life— walks with her family, deep observations of nature, and the land on which she lives. The resulting works are bold, weighty shapes in variations of balance. Yaron is thinking about rendering the impermanence of nature into the most permanent materials we have. Constructed in calm, monochromatic color palettes of browns, creams, taupes, and grays, these are organic shapes boiled down to their most reductive yet evocative state. Clouds might teeter upon a mountain, which sits on rock— a visual haiku to provoke the senses. MARGOT BECKER is an artist, weaver, and educator based in Hudson, NY. Through textile processes she explores sense of place, the natural environment, and the connection between the individual and the communal subconscious. "I make precise, sensuous weavings rooted in sustainable textile traditions and the slow intelligence of handcraft," says Becker of her work. AUDREY DUCAS is a French artist and textile designer. Born and raised in France, she moved to New York a decade ago. Her fiber art is inspired by her numerous travels in Asia. "I keep studying and honoring the lineage of weavers I evolved from, while also taking risks and consciously breaking the rules of my classical training," she writes of her work. "Weaving has taught me how parameters and strict boundaries (the loom and the warp) allow creativity and exploration to blossom." EMILY KEPULIS is a mixed media visual artist and muralist living in Portland, Oregon. Her work explores the concepts of home and selfhood and how they are shaped by memory and experiences, recurrently changing and nonlinear. Materializing into imagined landscapes that often home soluble, ambulating figures, Kepulis’s paintings acknowledge home as a physical place as well as a place within the body and a locus of perception.

We are pleased to present this exhibition in celebration of Lino Tagliapietra and his storied career as depicted in the beautiful documentary film Sono Lino along with Lino's proteges and friends: Nancy Callan, Jen Elek, John Kiley, Dante Marioni and David Walters. Opening Reception with John Kiley, Dante Marioni & filmmaker Jacob Patrick Saturday, June 20th from 4 - 6pm RSVP for Reception Here Lines of Connection is an exhibition rooted in history, mastery, and the enduring power of human connection. Born in Murano, Italy in 1934, Lino began his life in glass at age eleven and went on to build a career spanning nearly eight decades. When he arrived at Pilchuck Glass School in 1979, his speed, precision, and seemingly effortless mastery were unlike anything seen before — introducing the world to a level of glass artistry it had never encountered and changing the course of the medium forever. Inspired by the documentary film Sono Lino , filmmaker Jacob Patrick's intimate portrait of a master confronting legacy, identity, and the passage of time, this exhibition honors that extraordinary journey and explores the bonds of mentorship, friendship, and artistic kinship that have defined his legacy in the world of glass. On view alongside Lino's breathtaking work are marvelous pieces by Nancy Callan, Jen Elek, John Kiley, Dante Marioni, and David Walters. All five are woven into the narrative of Sono Lino — celebrated artists in their own right, each connected to Lino in ways that have left an indelible mark on their practice. Together, their work tells a story that reaches beyond technique and form, tracing the invisible threads that link master to maker, teacher to student, and artist to artist. Lines of Connection is an invitation to experience not only the beauty of contemporary glass, but the rich human relationships that breathe life into it.
